What is changing with Revit Cloud Models?

Beginning July 6, 2027, Revit 2022 and earlier will lose cloud collaboration and access to Revit Cloud Models. Autodesk continues its current-plus-five release policy.

BIM 360 and Autodesk Forma web access and local Revit desktop capabilities are unaffected by this cloud-access change, subject to licensing. Upgrade active models that still need Revit cloud collaboration; an inactive or reference-only project may instead retain a recorded management decision.

For BIM managers, the practical question is which projects contain older cloud models and which teams still need to work on them in Revit. A portfolio view helps prioritize that review before choosing whether to upgrade, work locally, or leave an inactive model as it is.

The hard part is not one model. It is the project portfolio.

Checking a single Forma or BIM 360 project manually is feasible. Checking dozens or hundreds of projects is a different problem entirely.

  • Manual checking requires opening each project, locating model files, and noting the version — one project at a time.
  • It is repetitive and time-consuming across a large portfolio.
  • Inactive projects may need to be documented for future use, but Autodesk does not require every inactive model to be upgraded now.
  • Autodesk documents ways to check a cloud project's Revit version; reviewing versions across many projects still takes coordination.

A practical checklist for Revit cloud model version review across Forma (formerly ACC) and BIM 360:

  • Cloud models associated with Revit ≤ 2022; Upgrade required before July 6, 2027.
  • Active projects that still need Revit cloud collaboration in those versions
  • Teams that can work in a supported Revit version or continue locally without cloud collaboration
  • Inactive projects to document for possible future reactivation, without assuming an immediate upgrade
  • Related models and links to test before upgrading an active project
  • Projects to revisit when Autodesk announces future support-policy changes
